Sci fi inspiration

I’ve been re-reading Asimov’s “Foundation” trilogy recently. These Sci Fi books are hugely creative. They describe the social, political and scientific workings of a distant human galactic empire, its fall and subsequent evolution across a time period of centuries.

Foundation reminded me of some art books that I loved as a kid – the Terran Trade Authority manuals, full of huge hulking space craft and weird, remote planetary systems, all set in a distant mysterious future.

Though these paintings have not been a direct inspiration to any one project, and my day job has always been far more down to earth!  However, conceptual art, sci fi and space technology have always fed my imagination and given me a bit of escapism. I’d love to create some original sci fi artwork when the time permits. Certainly the same 3D art skill set I have developed over the years would give me the tools to create pictures or animations of some megaship on the edge of the galaxy.
